Crown World Mobility’s report covers four global mobility trends driving the industry, including:
1. Addressing the Sustainability Agenda
As Global Mobility teams start to grapple with the immense impact of an increased focus on ESG issues, many are struggling to understand how to start addressing ESG in their mobility programmes. This trend looks at how to address sustainability in the mobility supply chain by working collaboratively with vendors to address Scope 3 emissions (emissions relating to the supply chain).
2. The Need for Agility in Mobility
During the pandemic, mobility teams found themselves thrust into the spotlight as never before. From dealing with employees stranded in countries other than their location of work as lockdowns took hold, to pivoting to new policy types to address the new normal, such as remote work and virtual assignments, mobility finally found a seat at the table. What this has meant however is that mobility professionals now need to demonstrate a much wider skillset than ever before – beyond the administration of organising assignments, to fundamental immigration and tax compliance knowledge, to a refreshed focus on wellbeing, the demands on the mobility professional are greater than ever.
3. Working from Home, Away
Crown is starting to hear from clients who are sending assignees into locations where the norm is 100% home working. This raises all sorts of questions – from the potential success of the assignment, to the assimilation of the assignee into the host culture and office structure, to the very basics of what global mobility is for. If office presence is not mandated in the host location, does an assignment even make sense? Additionally, benefits require review – the assignee may need more wellbeing support in terms of networks, ERGs, intercultural training – and there may be the possibility to review local allowances such as housing where commuting distance is not an issue.
4. Addressing the cost crisis
This is an immigration focused trend, looking at the increasing impact of external global events on immigration policy. From Brexit, to the war in Ukraine, to zero Covid policies in Hong Kong and China, the outside world is encroaching upon the world of mobility as never before. This may simply mean adjustments in terms of processing times and tighter regulations, or it can sometimes mean the opening up of new opportunities, such as digital nomad visas supporting remote working and opening up a new world of flexibility for employees.
